As part of its youth initiative, Cortland Area Communities That Care organizes an annual Jump Start 10 Youth Conference for all 10th graders in Cortland County. Each year, hundreds of students attend to learn more on the topics of choices, careers, and community, with themes of leadership tying all three together. The 10th grade year is crucial in the lives of young adults, as they will begin making decisions that will affect the rest of their lives – decisions on everything from colleges and careers to drinking and smoking. The Cortland Area Communities That Care coalition is dedicated to supporting the young adults in our community by encouraging them to make wise and educated decisions about their future. The speakers, presentations, and workshops provided through the conference help students navigate these difficult decisions and work towards a brighter future.
