Strengthening Families 10-14

7 Valleys Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (7V CASA) is the lead coalition partner for this after school program. It can be implemented where ever a group of parents and children can meet together (churches, clubs, agencies, and after hours in schools). The program strengthens and enhances family management and communication skills while both parents and children have a wonderful time in each others' company. Participants are delighted with it.

Strengthening Families 10-14 is a seven week program that can help you and your family build on the strengths you already have and prepare for that all-important transition to adolescence and junior high. The curriculum provides a rich opportunity for the parent/caregiver and child learn together and to practice working together as a team to navigate successfully into adulthood. Our Strengthening Families 10-14 program here in Cortland County is a two and a half hour session that offers supper before the program starts and provides care for younger siblings while the program is in action. We've tried to eliminate all the barriers that tend to get in the way of families' involvement in fun, useful, programs, and make it as easy as possible for families to participate. At this time, there's no fee.

If you are interested in learning more about the Strengthening Families 10-14 program or if your agency, your family, or a family that you know is interested in participating in one of our scheduled Strengthening Family 10-14 programs, please call Joan Stivers at 756-8970. The Coalition has four trainers available to serve residents throughout the county. Or visit their website: www.7vcasa.org
